This unique course will focus on the most up-to-date and evidence-based care principles for managing diabetes in the school setting. Topics to be covered will have direct impact on the day-to-day management of youth with diabetes in school such as continuous glucose monitoring and how to remotely monitor data, insulin delivery methods including the most advanced automated insulin delivery systems, treatment of hypoglycemia, management of glucose during increased activity and exercise, and how to approach hyperglycemia and sick days. Additional sessions are devoted to 504 plans and the legal landscape. Finally, we will review staging of type 1 diabetes and the ability to screen for risk of type 1 diabetes. Sessions will be applicable to the care of youth with either type 1 or type 2 diabetes.
