Position Description

Greenwich Country Day School is an independent, co-educational day school with current enrollment of 900 students in grades N-9 and a faculty and staff of over 200. As of September 2019, GCDS will expand to include a high school program for grades 9-12, resulting in a projected overall school enrollment of up to 1200. The high school will be on a separate campus, less than two miles from our existing property.

Founded in 1926, Greenwich Country Day School is a traditional family school where creative teaching is encouraged and used to foster a love of learning and motivate children toward academic excellence. The school’s emphasis on developing the whole child results in attention to the development of character, values, creativity, and sportsmanship along with strong academic skills.

Due to expanding enrollment, Greenwich Country Day School seeks a School Nurse for the Lower Elementary Division, Grades Nursery - 2, to start August 2019. This is a 10-month per year position.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide healthcare to students and staff on a daily basis, as needed
  • Maintain up to date health and immunization records for students
  • Maintain care plans for students with health issues
  • Administration of daily medications and as PRN medications
  • Scheduling lice screenings for students and staff three times each year
  • Attend meetings as requested
  • Act as a resource for school staff in addressing health and infectious disease issues
  • Act as a liaison for parents, medical professionals and school staff
  • Maintain open communication with students, parents and staff
  • Assisting in the coordination of CPR certification for faculty and staff
  • Collaborative work with colleagues

Required Qualifications:

  • Current CT LPN License
  • Minimum of 2-years experience working in school nursing or related role with children in this age group
  • Current CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Excellent leadership, organizational and communication skills
  • Commitment to being part of a diverse, equitable and inclusive school community
  • Cultural competency skills to collaborate effectively across difference
  • Personal traits appropriate for nurturing children - must be energetic, flexible, patient, and have an inexhaustible sense of humor
