In 1971, Yale University established Yale Health to provide health services to its facility, staff and students through a multidisciplinary health maintenance organization located on campus. Yale Health has more than 49,000 members including students, staff, faculty and their families who come from every state in the country and almost every country in the world. We are celebrating over 50 years of service to the Yale community.

Our state-of-the-art facility at 55 Lock Street, is where our members receive most of their care from our 150+ providers. It is a 144,000 square foot medical facility with over 90 exam rooms, an Acute Care Department, a 15-bed inpatient facility, a diagnostic imaging suite including MR and CT scan, x-ray and ultrasound and a full-service retail pharmacy.

The Clinical Nurse collaborates with the care team to deliver direct patient care to identified patient populations in a unit. Provides daily clinical support and nursing care, including integration of administrative work within a clinical department. Performs direct care to Yale Health Members seeking unscheduled care. In collaboration with our medical teams, provides high-level clinical assessment and triage to patients calling for medical advice. This position utilizes significant clinical decision-making and critical thinking skills to determine appropriate level dispositions for each request and encounter. In support of the Clinical Nurse Manager and Chief of Medical Service, is responsible and accountable for ensuring achievement of strategic objectives and mission in the related patient service line. As a critical member of the care team, demonstrates outstanding clinical judgement and critical thinking skills to support organizational goals to meet superior outcomes, provides seamless high quality and efficiencies in the delivery of care. Patient and Family centered care is demonstrated in all areas of operations. Adheres to a safety culture, fosters staff engagement and service excellence to promote a positive work environment. Works in close collaboration with nursing, clinician and physician staff to ensure standards of care are consistently met. Practically applies comprehensive knowledge of nursing standards and principles as well as quality assurance and infection control theory in daily management.

Essential Duties

  • The clinical nurse uses the nursing process to deliver high quality comprehensive and individualized care to members of Yale Health.2. Collaborates with members of the multidisciplinary team to support the work of the team, unit activities, and the accomplishment of positive patient outcomes.3. Delegates responsibilities to appropriate members of the care delivery team based upon an understanding of others' roles, scope of practice, knowledge, and capabilities to ensure optimal utilization of personnel.4. Contributes to a positive work environment by being responsive to the need for change.5. Maintains a collaborative work relationship with staff members through respect and recognition of cultural and human diversity.6. Successfully completes the competency based orientation within designated time frame.7. Identifies self-learning needs and actively participates in meeting them in collaboration with the leadership team. Sets and achieves professional goals.8. Delivers excellence in patient care through compliance with all patient safety and regulatory initiatives.9. Communicates in a calm professional manner with patients, families, colleagues, members of the care team, and other hospital personnel, accepts and elicits feedback, and works toward resolving problems and clarifying issues and concerns.10. Uses resources in a fiscally sound manner.11. Compliance with University, State and federal healthcare regulations.

Required Education And Experience

Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing, licensed and a currently registered nurse in the State of Connecticut. Bachelor’s Degree in nursing (Bachelor of Science in Nursing).

Demonstrated ability to multitask and prioritize using the nursing process in a high volume outpatient environment.

Preferred Education, Experience And Skills

Demonstrated Nursing experience with at least two years in a medical surgical or critical care setting in a hospital or outpatient/ambulatory facility. Ambulatory care, primary care (sub-acute facility) or a college health center preferred in addition. Critical Care experience includes ICU, ED, SICU. EKG interpretation skills for some specialties.

Required Licenses Or Certifications

Licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Connecticut.

Physical Requirements

May require prolonged standing, walking, use of sight, hearing and touch, moving/lifting patients of varying weights. Requires keyboard use and ability to sit in front of a computer screen for long periods of time.
