Barbara Ziogas
Barbara Ziogas MD, FAAP

President of CT-AAP

Dr. Barbara Ziogas is board certified in Pediatrics and is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She received her medical degree from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and served her residency at the University of Connecticut, where she stayed an additional year as Chief Pediatric Resident. Dr. Ziogas began practicing pediatrics in the FarmingtonArea in 1995 and has been an involved member of the medical community since then. She is an active member of the Connecticut Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and serves on the Executive Board as Secretary. She is an active member of the Section on Administration and Practice Management (SOAPM), and is a member of the Council on School Health (COSH).

Cassandra Esposito is a Family Nurse Practitioner working at The Aesthetic Center in Darien, CT. She graduated from nursing school in 2008 and then went on to obtain her bachelor’s degree graduating Magna Cum Laude at the Anna Maria College in 2017. In 2019, she achieved her master’s degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner from the University of Southern California. She has thirteen years of professional nursing experience, predominantly in the Emergency Department. Cassandra currently serves on the Connecticut Nurses Association Board of Directors as the Chair of the Nomination Committee. She’s served as Chair of the ED Unit Council from 2015-2017 at Greenwich Hospital.

Katherine A. Hinderer, Ph.D., RN, CNE, NEA-BC is an experienced nurse scientist and educator with more than 25 years of professional nursing practice and extensive expertise as a researcher, mentor, and educator. She is currently a Senior Nurse Scientist at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center in Hartford, CT. She serves as Senior Scientific Advisory Board Member and Vice-Chair of Nursing Research at Connecticut Children's Research Institute, a Senior Advisory Board Member, at the Center for Innovation, and a Scientific Review Board Member for Connecticut Children's Human Research Protection Program (IRB). She is an advocate, thought leader, and influencer with a passion for science and excellence in clinical practice/patient care. Dr. Hinderer oversees more than 30 active nursing (RN and APRN) and interprofessional research and EBP projects in an Academic, Magnet-designated Pediatric Health System. She is responsible for maintaining standards and quality metrics related to nursing research, EBP, and the Magnet model - with special attention to the new knowledge, innovations, and improvements aspect of the model. Dr. Hinderer's research interests include patient outcomes, the healthcare work environment, pediatric mental health research, advance care planning (ACP), ACP/end-of-life (EOL) decision-making in Chinese Americans, and interprofessional research, education, and practice. Dr. Hinderer enjoys collaborative research and working with diverse populations. Dr. Hinderer has served as a mentor and academic advisor to numerous implementation science projects. Current programs of study focus on the healthcare provider experience of the healthcare work environment, school nurses and behavioral health in schools, behavioral health assessment in the emergency department, and new graduate experiences with nursing in the COVID-19 era.
